Projects
Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.  Below are the projects in which we are currently involved:

Children's Library Reading for children is important to all Kiwanis members, especially to those in Pennsylvania. Yearly the Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville donates funds to the Phoenixville Children's Library for their summer programs as well as general support. We hold several fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for this and other projects. Nancy Breuer
IDD Program IDD = Iodine Deficite Disorder. It is the #1 preventable cause of redardation world wide. Kiwanis International along with the help of UNICEF has taken on a project to rid the world of IDD by educating parents, teachers and others of the value of using iodized salt in their diets to prevent goiters, several birth defects and even infant deaths. To date we have made a significant impact on the world with this project. We won't stop until we have rid the world of this. Kenneth Wickstrom
Newborn Baby Books Each new mother at Phoenixville Hospital is provided with an "instruction manual" for her new baby by the Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville. This book is written at a 7th grade level and contains less than one page article type instructions on caring for their new born covering topics such as diaper rash, talking to baby, eye contact and so very many more. It continues with average growth instructions up to age 18 months. Debbie Derito
Supplies for "In Need" Children The Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville provides funds for children who need shoes, clothing or other necessities at any school age. We also financiall support the Phoenixville Area Education Foundation's "Pack a Backpack" which provides a backpack with school supplies to children who need it from Kindergarden through 5th grade. Scholarships Several scholarships are given out from YMCA camp scholarships to graduating seniors scholarships. Tammy Klotzbach
Travel & Adventure Ad Book Ads are $25, $50 & $80 to help defreay the costs of the Travel & Adventure Series. These travel documentaries are enjoyed by disabled vets, seniors, students & other locals at a fraction of the actual cost. Jodi Martin
Highway Clean Up Summer Meet @ 8:00 am @ Bull Tavern. Pick up trash along 2 mile stretch of highway between G Lodge & Sal's Pizza Box. Walt Cory
ROSE SALE Kiwanis will be selling dozens of boxed multicolored long stemmed to be available for pick up on October 27 for only $15. Proceeds benefit both the Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville & PA Kiwanis District Foundation Scholarship Fund. Kathy Dietrich
Sponsored Groups The Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville sponsors several other Kiwanis groups. It starts with the K-Kids in Barkley, East Pikeland & Schuylkill Elementary schools for 4th & 5th grade students to build leadership skills while doing community projects. It continues through Middle School at Phoenixville Area Middle School and soon the Renaissance Academy continuing to build self esteem, leadership traits and others with community involvement projects. As students progress to either CAT Pickering, Phoenixville Area High School or the Renaissance Academy they join Key Club for more in depth self image building through leading their peers in community projects and helping out with projects of the adult clubs. In college a student can become a member of Circle K and continue to grow, mature and change the world one child and one community at a time. For disabled or mentally challenged adults, we have Aktion Club. They also build self esteem, leadership qualities and have fun working on community projects. Patricia Tindell

Reading to Children Kiwanis members read 15 minutes to pre school & sometimes Kindergarden aged children several times per week during the school year. Peg Kelly Macdonald
Halloween Party/Movie A free movie & halloween treats for the kids at the Colonial Theatre. Watch for the specific date in your child's bookbag handout. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Nan Odenthal
Breakfast with Santa On a specific Sunday in December, we will host a breakfast to support Alex's Lemonade Stand for pediatric cancer research. Great entertainment, things to do, gifts for kids and of course...Santa Claus. Tom Mitchell
PAMS Basketball Tournament Middle School Basketball Teams from the area compete for trophies. Nan Odenthal
$1000 Grant We have a grant available to any local non profit group or project that is improving the lives of children in our area. Patricia Tindell
Relay for LIfe Help to raise funds not only for cancer research, but also for local families who cannot afford treatments. Nan Odenthal
Bulgarian Orphanage Support $30 provides all the vitamins & some other medications for a child in a Bulgarian Orphanage. A Pennsylvania Kiwanian personally takes the money to Bulgaria & purchases the medications & personally delivers them to each orphanage. The Phoenixville Club solely supports an entire orphanage. Duck Race Enjoy the race by taking a $5 chance for each duck you want to win. Top prize is $1000. Total of $3100 in cash prizes plus 50+ other prizes donated by area businesses. Kathy Dietrich
Reading to Children Several times per week Kiwanis members read to pre school & Kindergarden aged children for 15 minutes. We rotate between schools regularly. We also donate books to the schools. Peg Kelly Macdonald
